Led by Portuguese mixology chef Nelson de Matos, the Argo has just received two stars in the ranking of the Best Cocktail Bars in the Iberian Peninsula, which evaluates establishments in Portugal and Spain. Last year, the bar had already gained a key in the same award, in addition to adding distinctions such as the Best Hotel Bar in the Iberian Peninsula from the 1st Edition of the Hotel & Mantel Awards by Condé Nast Traveler Spain.
The concept that guides The Argo is precisely born from this fusion between architecture and the sea: the very name of the bar refers to the Argonauts, characters from Greek mythology known for exploring the oceans. The projects reinforce this proposal with turquoise blue tones, organic curves, and wood, as well as cozy velvet armchairs and high stools positioned in front of the "balé" of the mixologists, illuminated by the indirect light of small lamps.
The "oceanic" vibe does not shy away from the menu of signature cocktails. The drink "The Argo", which translates the house concept, features premium gin, phytoplankton (a type of marine algae), inula, sea fennel, dill, and lemon (25 euros). Another hit, the Poseidon (17 euros), combines cognac, ginger, pistachio, lemon, semi-sweet Madeira wine, and plum. There are also classic cocktails, wines, and beers - an offering that makes The Argo not only a must-visit bar but also an important differentiator in the choice of where to stay in the Algarve.
