Donation from CASACOR architect helps complete house in Jardim Colombo

This year, architect Barbara Dundes decided to use the funds that were initially intended for marketing Casa Tao , a space she designed at CASACOR São Paulo , in a different way . The funds were reallocated and allocated to Fazendinhando , a social architecture organization that has been a partner of CASACOR since 2019, and helped complete the construction of Fausto's house , located in Jardim Colombo. The initiative to donate to Fazendinhando came about thanks to the connection established with Ester Carro , the project's lead architect, during the CASACOR exhibitions; as Barbara says: "I have been following Ester's work since last year at CASACOR , and I have noticed her commitment and care. She helps people that we cannot reach ." The renovation of Fausto's house will be inaugurated at an event with press professionals next Thursday (15/08) . The action came at a time when Fazendinhando was trying to raise more funds for the Fausto house project, especially for the structure of the house , which was the most needed part. "It is always a difficult process to obtain resources , people wait for a disaster to happen to become aware, and Bárbara's case was completely different, she came with an attitude of understanding the importance of this type of action", says Ester. According to her, the biggest challenge Fazendinhando currently faces in carrying out the work is obtaining the funds needed to pay local labor . “Unfortunately, donations for renovations are still limited and scarce. That’s why Bárbara’s attitude was very welcome. I also believe that the awareness promoted by CASACOR is essential to break down some barriers,” she says.

Donations can be of construction materials, money or even technical consultancy, depending on the NGO's needs at the time. Through architecture, the organization led by Ester changes the reality of residents who live in extremely precarious spaces in the outskirts of the city. Recently, the renovation of the home of motorcycle courier Wallece , a 7 m² space that was the 70th environment of CASACOR São Paulo 2024 , received media attention due to the fragility of the housing conditions before the renovation. Like Wallece and Fausto, many other Brazilians live in this context, which reinforces the importance of mobilization, says Ester: " There are around 40 million precarious homes . This affects the physical and psychological health of many. At this moment, we need mobilization at the government level or even among companies to support the different actions."
