Anantara’s new European venture breathes new life into a
13th-century Capuchin convent on the edge of a cliff in one of Italy’s most popular destinations. Following extensive renovations,
Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel officially opens its doors, welcoming guests to elegantly refurbished rooms and suites featuring original features, exciting dining concepts and a world-class spa, all with panoramic views of the Mediterranean.
The restoration of the
800-year-old building carefully preserves historic features, including
ornate cloisters and a
Baroque church on the site complete with marble altar and majolica floor. Careful preservation of the façade to maintain the original materials and colors.
The interior design takes inspiration from the convent and the simple, artisanal life of its original inhabitants, with materials sourced from nature –
woods, leathers, natural fibres and precious metals – mixed with the luxurious details for which Anantara is renowned.
The property’s 52 rooms and suites – many of which were initially built as monks’ quarters – feature
original tiles, vaulted ceilings and lime walls for a sense of simple serenity, paired seamlessly with rich fabrics, sculptural furnishings, local art, technological comforts and Mediterranean views.
The
Suite Del Priore – so named because of its location in the convent – boasts a canopy above the bed and views of the cloisters, while the
Suite Dell'Eremita , the hermit's suite, offers a sanctuary of privacy and aromatic romance all its own and a tranquil lemon grove.
The award-winning
Anantara Spa is a serene travertine-clad space overlooking the sea. In three treatment rooms, expert therapists offer healing journeys, including the property’s signature Convento Di Amalfi massage, which uses citrus oils to refresh and rejuvenate. The open-air Fitness Center is fully equipped with state-of-the-art exercise equipment for ocean breeze-cooled workouts and features the newly renovated cliffside pool.
The cuisine at Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel is a celebration of the region with carefully curated offerings from renowned Italian masters. At
Dei Cappucinni , Executive Chef Claudio Lanuto introduces a convent cuisine concept where fresh, seasonal ingredients grown in the convent’s garden star in monk-inspired à la carte dishes and sensory tasting menus.
La Locanda della Canonica Pizzeria by
Gino Sorbillo features eight signature pizzas designed by a global pizza ambassador to create a journey through Campania. An internationally renowned pizza master, Gino invites diners to experience the flavors of the region, from anchovies from Cetara and locally produced Provolone del Monaco to mozzarella and ricotta from Agerola.
Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel is Anantara’s second property in Italy following the recent addition of Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome Hotel, and the brand’s eighth in Europe.
