Contrary to popular belief, Cloffice did not emerge during the pandemic. The term was coined by fashion bloggers, who used to have a space in their closet with a desk and computer to produce content. Today, the name also encompasses the minimalist movement that seeks to have and use only the essentials . According to Pinterest , the United States, Canada and Australia are the countries that dominate searches for the term, which is classified as one of the 2021 trends by the site. “With more days spent at home, many of us have had to incorporate the office into the home and create multifunctional spaces for all kinds of day-to-day activities. In this scenario, the closet can be the place where homeowners can find their individuality , silence and extra space,” said Larkin Brown, Pinterest’s Research and User Experience Lead. Due to the pandemic, a growing number of people with little space at home have sought out an improvised home office , since, according to the IBGE, approximately 8 million Brazilians are working from home – before the pandemic, this number did not reach 4 million.
