Located in Itaipava, a mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro, at the top of a condominium with a privileged view of the mountains and natural beauty of the region, this
480 m² house is the official residence of a family consisting of a couple with two adult children.
The owners already lived in the residence, but as they felt the need to update the
layout to meet the family's current needs, they contacted architects
Diego Raposo and
Manuela Simas , from the
Diego Raposo + Arquitetos office, to commission a total renovation project, including the decoration of all rooms.
“The old
layout had many internal divisions, giving the feeling that the house was smaller, and the decoration no longer represented the residents’ tastes,” says Raposo.
The project included a new division of the house's spaces, larger openings and frames to bring in more natural light and improve the integration of the house with the outdoor area, renovation and expansion of the gourmet area and pool, new access and a new façade.
As for the materiality, the project proposed the use of natural elements and textures that brought more rusticity, comfort and calm to the house, such as are stone, burnt cement and tauari
wood .
In the new
layout , the ground floor was defined entirely for social use with a large living room, kitchen and dining room fully integrated, while the second floor was reserved for the
suites , bringing more privacy to the residents.
The landscaping project developed for the house used native species from the Atlantic Forest, a characteristic biome of this region.
