Countryside family retreat features rustic décor and horse stable

A family heirloom, the house in Serra had been closed for years and was feeling the passage of time when it fell into the hands of style director Paula Fernandes , who is passionate about the region, where she has been visiting since she was a child. Wanting to transform the property into something completely different, she called on architect Maurício Nóbrega for a complete renovation, which included the construction of horse stables.

"My idea was to do something very simple, with a similar architecture for all the buildings, thus creating an integrated set", explains Maurício.

To achieve this, the architect used two resources: he chose an unusual tone for the facades, brown, which serves as a kind of camouflage so that the house is not noticed by those passing by on nearby roads; and he made all the frames out of wood , following the same style as the stables.

The first intervention was in the garage. Located in a small 42 m² annex next to the main house without much use, the space was transformed into a guest house with a bedroom, a living room and a small support kitchen.

The main house, located on a higher part of the land, was completely remodeled . Previously very simple and compartmentalized, the 190 m² building had its walls knocked down to create a larger social space for the family to spend weekends and vacations. .

The decoration was taken care of by Paula herself, who made a point of using furniture inherited and acquired throughout her life, as well as objects found and brought back from her travels, creating a very personalized ambiance .

To complete the new configuration of the property, Maurício also created two spaces for the oldest residents: stables , in a lower part of the land, and a central riding arena , right in front of the house, a special request from the owner of the house, who is in love by horses.
