Located in Teresópolis, a city in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro, this country house with 250 m² of built area was very deteriorated after years of not being used and the owner wanted to return to it, since her children were raised there. and now she wanted to consider the presence of her grandchildren as well. That's when architect Natália Lemos , from the Natalia Lemos Arquitetura office, entered the story, working in partnership with architect Paula Pupo – the duo that designed the Estúdio Elã space at CASACOR Rio 2019. .

“We transformed the five original bedrooms into suites, added a guest bathroom that wasn’t in the plan and integrated the kitchen with the living room, with the option of isolating the spaces, when necessary, using sliding wooden panels,” says Natália.

In the outdoor area, the architects designed a swimming pool with different uses (hot tub, shallow “beach” for children and deep area), facing one of the property’s greatest assets: the incredible view of the mountains.

One of the biggest challenges of the project was recovering the existing wood in the house, which, although it was in very poor condition, was of inestimable value to the client. “We always value the emotional memory of an old house, because we believe it should be affectionate and full of good memories. Therefore, our main concern in this project was to maintain the original identity of the building and highlight what was most valuable to its residents. ”, reveals Natalia.

"The final production of the house also made all the difference. We opted for a neutral base and created the composition with several cushions in earthy and nude tones, with lots of plants, providing comfort and charm to all the rooms", he concludes.
