Located in Pedro do Rio (a district of Petrópolis in the mountainous region of RJ), this weekend country house was already under construction when the owners commissioned architect
João Panaggio , from the Panaggio Arquitetura office and
CASACOR Rio team, to design the interiors for the two floors, which total
800 m² .

“The clients asked for the social areas to be integrated and visually connected to the external area, as well as an office integrated into the bedroom on the second floor so they could work remotely when necessary,” he says.

The architecture was designed using natural materials, with emphasis on the flooring made of
reclaimed wood planks , present in a large part of the house, and the
rough stones , which cover the external façade, the columns of the covered balcony and the longest wall in the living room.

“We took these elements as protagonists and used them as a starting point to develop the interior design. The idea was to create a very welcoming mountain atmosphere,” says Panaggio.

In the completely new decor, priority was given to furniture and ornaments supplied by local merchants and artisans. Among the designer furniture in the living room, the architect highlights the Mocho stool by
Sergio Rodrigues , as well as the Pitu armchair with stool and the Bailaria side table, designed by
Aristeu Pires .

“The only exception is the
kitchen , which has a
Provençal- inspired decor, with highlights including the light
blue finish on the carpentry and the
hydraulic tile covering on the countertop with a retro print,” highlights Panaggio.

The raw linen curtains filter the natural light coming from outside, making the spaces more welcoming, while also highlighting the
room 's high ceiling. The woodwork, designed by the office, was executed in natural freijó, in a darker tone, to establish a direct visual connection with the roof and the exposed wooden beams.

In the master
suite , the neutrality of the finishes stands out, with a focus on the white lacquer and freijó woodwork and the light linen fabrics. The combination of the natural Roman travertine marble cladding with the dark freijó woodwork gave the master bathroom a relaxing spa-like atmosphere.

The total integration of the hot tub and sauna with the external landscape is achieved through large glass panels and there is the possibility of accessing the sauna from inside the pool, which has a semi-Olympic lane shape and an infinity edge.
