A welcoming, cozy home that exudes calm and joy – both for its residents and their friends. This was the request of a couple with a busy social life to the office Daniel Fromer & Arquitetos , led by architect Daniel Fromer and co-authored by Kika Kamasmie. With 498 m² , the project located in a paradisiacal address – Praia do Espelho, in Bahia – was commissioned by Fernanda Berendt, owner and interior designer who made a point of expressing her passion for Bahia, with a lot of Brazilianness, through the décor .

The connection with nature was the starting point for the interior design project. Built around a vine – the main reason for choosing the land – the residence exudes the resident's passion for simplicity and nature. The location greatly influenced one of the owner's wishes, as one of the requests was that the house have a "touch" of the Bahian writer Jorge Amado , and that it take on the feel of one of his most famous novels – Gabriela Cravo e Canela – in a contemporary chic version.

A neutral color palette runs throughout the project, with earth, clay and wood colors. The architecture firm also took care to use coverings that do not block the house's connection with nature; and also to avoid anything too flashy , since the idea was to create a house that breathes and is open to the outside. Complementing the layout full of Brazilian elements and timeless pieces, the landscaping project, designed by Rodrigo Oliveira , used pre-existing native species and worked around the vine, giving the feeling that the garden had always belonged to that house and providing freshness to the construction.

With the comfort of his guests in mind, the architect designed and built another area, including three suites, a TV room and an office – which can be used as a home office or even for a moment of calm and isolation. The intention here was to create a simple, timeless layout that would be reminiscent of the houses in the South of Bahia . The interior design follows and complements the timelessness of the house, bringing freshness to the palette and materials chosen.

To create a local, Brazilian and unpretentious décor, sustainability techniques were widely used in this project. For example, whitewashed masonry was used on the walls, ceramic flooring made from locally produced terracotta tiles, reused coca tiles from old buildings in Chapada Diamantina and window frames made from reclaimed peroba. To keep the house at a mild temperature and always airy, the rooms were arranged so that ventilation and natural lighting were extremely valued , reducing the use of air conditioning. In addition to reforested wood, the furniture, lighting and metalwork were, for the most part, produced by locals. Check out more photos of the project in the gallery!
