Japanese architect Yu Momoeda designed Agri-chapel , an unusual chapel in the city of Nagasaki, Japan. The site is surrounded by a large national park overlooking the sea. The idea behind the project was to connect the chapel's activities with the natural environment. . Its wooden structure uses so-called fractal geometry (which studies objects that when divided maintain exactly the same shape).
The structure creates a dome by progressively joining pillars that increase in quantity and decrease in size. Starting with four 120 mm pillar units, the second layer is composed of eight 90 mm pillar units, and the last layer of sixteen pillar units. 60 mm. The four corner supporting walls take on the horizontal force and the inner wooden unit supports the roof load of up to 25 tons.
