Two renovated old houses give the contemporary touch that one of the most traditional furniture stores in Belo Horizonte, Micheliny Martins , was looking for. With a project signed by architect Ângela Roldão , the abundance of natural light that fills the space is thanks to the white ceramic cobogós from Micheliny Martins. facade – which were also used to contain the incidence of the setting sun.

The house was renovated on several levels . In the first, the foundations were maintained, installing a metal structure and large open spaces on top. In the second, Micheliny Martins annex, added later, the project was challenging.

“It was a very old house with three different structures, built at different times. We conceptualized the project starting with the structure : metal pillars and beams supported by structural walls, walls around the house peeled back to show the beautiful ceramic bricks… and voilà ! With white walls and the gardens, the beautiful space appeared”, says the architect.

Because it is an old structure, several walls had to be maintained. The solution was to make the metal structure loose and, at times, with small holes that accentuate this purpose. “The necessary structure became our party and we chose to highlight it rather than hide it,” says Ângela.
