Arches in the doors and windows of CASACOR Bahia

The arches of CASACOR Bahia were preserved from the original architecture of Casa Nossa Senhora das Mercês. Signed by GAM Arquitetura, the master plan of the exhibition sought to translate this encounter between history and modernity. By valuing the arches in the doors and windows of the convent, the project preserves original proportions and religious symbologies, but also invites new interpretations.

If in the past they represented solidity and religiosity, today the arches act as aesthetic language capable of integrating different styles and narratives. The shapes frame contemporary projects and guide gazes without losing their historical weight, becoming a bridge between times.

About Casa Nossa Senhora das Mercês

Founded in 1735 by the Ursuline Sisters, the Convent Nossa Senhora das Mercês was for centuries dedicated to the education of girls – becoming a reference in academic and cultural training in Bahia. Until the 1980s, it welcomed generations of students for experiences of discipline and learning.
