Wallpaper , the international design, fashion and lifestyle magazine, has announced the winners of its annual awards. Eleven projects were selected by a panel of distinguished judges, including Paola Antonelli, curator and architect and designer at MoMA, architect Bjarke Ingels of BIG, Philippe Malouin, wallpaper designer of the year 2018 and visual artist Do Ho Suh. In addition to Milan , which was awarded the best city this year, ten other awards were distributed in celebration of the places, products, people and phenomena that stood out in the market in 2018.
The award for best home design went to Nichetto Studio's ' Astro ', a heater designed like a "spaceship", which incorporates air purification technology. French designer Pierre Yovanovitch took the designer of the year crown for his furniture series and outstanding interior design projects.
In the world of architecture, Kengo Kuma's recently opened V&A Dundee won best public building, with its geometric design inspired by the cliffs of Scotland. The award for best private home went to Porky Hefer's Nest, an organically shaped abode in the Namib Desert. Meanwhile, perched on a cliff edge on Ulleungdo Island, the Kosmos was honored in the best hotel category.
In the fashion world, Rick Owens was honored for the best womenswear collection for fall/winter 2018, while Salvatore Ferragamo received the award for best menswear collection for the same season. Read more about each of the projects and the nominees on the Wallpaper Design Award website.
