Fernanda Marques ' studies on the ancestry of the Brazilian territory were the focus of Terrae Brasilis Hunter Douglas , a project that marked the architect's return to CASACOR São Paulo after an eleven-year hiatus. The name of the space is a reference to the original Brazil and the abundance of Caesalpinia Echinata wood, popularly known as brazilwood. A reddish resin was extracted from the bark of this tree, used by indigenous people in body painting and by the Portuguese in dyeing fabrics. The ember-red color of the wood gave rise to the name of the country, which until 1506 was called Terrae Brasilis .

“Returning to our origins seemed like a natural path to me, given the challenge proposed by CASACOR 2024 to shift our gaze a little towards a new creative axis, less Eurocentric and more original ”, says Fernanda Marques. Wood is present in the furniture and, above all, in the gigantic vault present in the space, based on the reproduction of the raw material in a sustainable way . Covered with natural wood sheets, the product that is normally used in corporate projects was adapted in an unprecedented way by Fernanda in a residential environment, exclusively for the exhibition.

In the spacious lounge at Terrae Brasilis Hunter Douglas, where a living room and a bar intertwine in a welcoming atmosphere with the optimization of various spaces , the national imagery is skillfully evoked, transforming Brazil into a source that is both poetic and tangible. This is expressed in the furniture design , such as the Serras table collection, consisting of a high table and a coffee table, designed by Fernanda for Breton . Furthermore, Brazil shines through in the carefully selected artworks , highlighting artists from diverse Brazilian artistic movements , such as Caetano de Almeida, Marcos Amato and Túlio Pinto. These elements converge to create an environment that is not only visually enchanting, but also evokes Brazil's rich cultural tapestry .

The design of the space is centered on an emblematic piece from one of the architect's most recent projects: the Landscape sofa , manufactured by Breton: "Free and loose, it evokes the feeling of a large island , connecting with the idea of conceiving Brazil as a vast, particular and unique territorial extension in the midst of global geography", explains Fernanda. It is around these pieces that the other furniture is articulated, "providing glimpses of other lands", comments the professional, referring to the bar areas, the lounge and the outdoor space. For the outside of the space, the architect created a winter garden with free access for visitors. At one end of the lounge , frames were created to receive Hunter Douglas curtain lines and products from the brand that feature remote control, cell phone or tablet technology , allowing visitors to discover images that refer to Brazilian landscapes.
“A welcome legacy of the pandemic period, for several reasons, I realize that the domestic space has become the great entertainment center of the family. While in the kitchen many people dedicate themselves to preparing their favorite dishes, others want to turn the bar into a large stage ,” observes the architect. The doors of the furniture in the bar area are covered in perforated metal. Inside, the translucent panel creates an illuminated background that highlights the space even more. The introduction of the marble high table reinforces the idea of a bar and contrasts with the metal elements in the surroundings.

For Fernanda, CASACOR São Paulo , in addition to being the main Brazilian interior design exhibition, is a privileged space for the debate of relevant issues in the area. “Ultimately, it reflects our life dynamics. And, by sharing different views of our common spaces, we can give visibility to knowledge and practices that are part of our professional daily lives, but which can contribute to the collective development of living ,” concludes the professional.
