In the year he completes 10 years of his career, architect Fabiano Prates Ravaglia , from FPR Studio, debuts at CASACOR Rio de Janeiro by presenting, in the external area of the exhibition, the space "Optical Illusion". Much more than an eyeglasses store, the space, consisting of an adapted structural module, of 30m², and a deck-lounge of 40m², adopts solutions and materials that permanently instigate the look.

"When I decided to pursue optics, I immediately thought of eyeglass lenses and reflections , how they have the power to bring what we see closer and further away through the interplay between concave and convex. From there, the idea arose of designing mirrors positioned in such a way as to deceive the eye , thus stimulating curiosity, interaction and involvement of the public, like the mirror with an infinity effect", he says.

Even the store's ceiling was covered in mirrors, which alter the sense of perspective and depth of the space , while an installation, composed of mirrored circles of different heights and diameters, shares space with the natural plants in the gardens outside. "These sculptures represent the lenses of eyeglass frames and invite visitors to see the space from new perspectives," explains the architect.

Overall, the project adopted a contemporary aesthetic language based on neutral tones and light walls to highlight the colored glasses on display in the optician's shop. Inside, the bookcase designed by the architect (in a gradient that goes from white to black) brings rhythm and depth to the space through colors and reflections, in contrast to the lightness of the carpentry and the illuminated suspended shelves. Meanwhile, the service desks and the organically shaped carpet (designed by the architect) break up the rigidity of the space, while ensuring more fluid circulation .

In terms of materials and finishes, Ravaglia highlights the Lithos porcelain flooring (launched by Portinari), the MDF carpentry in Absolute Black (by Duratex) and the walls in the colors Porcelana and Golfinho de Noronha (by Coral). Among the designer furniture, two pieces stand out: the C244 armchair, by designer Victor Vasconcelos , and the Soddy chairs, by designer Angelo Duvoisin .
“Optical illusions have always fascinated scientists, psychologists and artists, as they demonstrate how our visual perception can be influenced and deceived , highlighting the complexities of the human visual system and the interpretation our brain makes of what we see. Treating a commercial and ephemeral space in an exhibition with this theme is an invitation to see ourselves from different ways and angles , without judging what we are capable of seeing. In tones and shadows, the black and white of the space does not mean that we are eight or 80, but rather that between these colors we have an infinity of grays that show us possibilities of expanding our vision”, concludes the architect.
