For many architecture and interior design professionals, participating in
CASACOR is quite an experience. Even more so because they are working alongside big names in the market and having their work seen by thousands of people. And this was the dream of the young interior designer.
Matheus Lima , 25 years old.
Born in Mogi das Cruzes, São Paulo, he started working at the age of 16 as a plotter. “At that stage, I started to understand the programs and
Sketchup . I learned everything on my own because I didn’t have the money for the course,” he says.
But ,
My taste for decoration dates back to my childhood . “When we built my parents’ house, I always went with them to Tok & Stok and looked for references for the spaces,” she reveals.
In 2014, the designer had the opportunity to live in Canada for a while, living with his aunt. There, he studied English and entrepreneurship, as well as deepening his knowledge of 3D modeling and rendering. When he returned to Brazil, at the age of 18, he went to work at a construction company, where he worked as a designer and became a coordinator. “At night, I did
freelance 3D work for the architects ,” he says. Thus, he stood out in the market until won his first client in 2016. At that time, Matheus founded his office and, since then, has signed numerous projects in Brazil and the United States.
The dream of
CASACOR began the first time the designer visited the São Paulo show, at the age of 18. “
I felt I needed to be part of it .” From then on, he matured personally and professionally until he made the decision to apply. for the 2021 edition. “I sent my portfolio and was approved!” he says proudly.
For his debut project, he decided
to tackle the obsession with a perfect life . The inspiration came from a series of works by artist
Gabriel Wickbold and the space was named
Sans Tache , French for 'Without Spots'.
With a good touch of drama, the intimate room designed by Matheus features a work by Wickbold on one of the main walls, which is a
critique of the desire to erase the scars acquired throughout life . Lighting helps to create the mood of the environment.
Neon lights are an allusion to the exits we find in difficult moments in life. “There is a certain discomfort in the air, a way I found to say that
even with scars it is worth living . There is always a way out and a path”, explains the designer.
The
intimate atmosphere also comes from the use of wood covering the walls. “I wanted to bring a New York feel with the presence of lots of wood and the large fireplace. It’s
an incredible space to enjoy in the fall and winter ,” he says. For the furniture, Matheus chose
pieces with a striking design . The soft pink sofa stands out, bringing a touch of lightness. To complement the look, the imposing
Wing armchair and the
Mush table , created by Jader Almeida. The sculpture-lamp designed by Matheus also draws attention:
a bucket with dripping paint painted gold made from 3D printing . The piece represents the overflow of life and happiness in its essence, according to the designer.
“
It is a great honor for me to be at CASACOR São Paulo and also a huge challenge. From the beginning I wanted to do something special because, besides being an opportunity to show my work, it is the realization of a dream. I reworked the project a few three times, but everything went well”, celebrates the professional, happy with the result.
