The Francisco Brennand Workshop will be participating in CASACOR São Paulo for the first time. The institution will occupy a space of 42 m2 with a selection of the well-known utility objects that became the sculptor and painter's trademark since the 1950s and that continue to be manufactured to this day by the artisans of the space.
What drives this production is the preservation of the legacy of his work and the contribution to the sustainability of the cultural complex that bears his name in Recife.

The proposal by architects Martin Corullon and Gustavo Cedroni was to carry out a specific intervention , equally strong and respectful of the pre-existing space.

"A bookcase connected to wooden islands creates a very light expography, which uses the structural bones of the building in this part previously inaccessible to the public to its advantage. There is no definition between front and back; visitors can surround the main volume in which the pieces are on display, which creates a more museum- like experience, without excluding the commercial nature of the space", explains Cedroni.

Among the pieces presented at the event, the Eggs stand out, a symbolic form of Brennand's work that represents the constant reproduction and renewal of life, which can be purchased by visitors to the event, as well as panels made with the well-known ceramic tiles from Oficina Francisco Brennand. .
Manufactured since the 1970s, their production will resume in a limited and artisanal way, aimed at special projects to be developed together with architects, designers and decorators.
“The ceramics are handcrafted in many stages , from the unique composition of the clay to firing at high temperatures, thus obtaining unique results of tonal variations that crown the singularity of each piece”, says Marianna Brennand , the artist’s great-niece. and president of the Francisco Brennand Workshop.

"The utilitarian ceramics and tiles produced by the Workshop are present in people's imagination and affective memory . It is a mission to continue this legacy, looking at all the traditions of the past and updating the production. It is a way of celebrating Brennand's work, at the same time as we invest in production with the potential to bring sustainability to the institution in the future.”

The Oficina became a non-profit institution in September 2019, a few months before Francisco's death. During the process of redesigning the complex in Recife, Marianna was also at the forefront of the initiative to revisit the collection of utilitarian and decorative pieces with the aim of reverting resources to the sustainability of the space , as the artist wished.
