Inspired by the classic "O Grande Sertão Veredas" by Guimarães Rosa, the bathroom "O Sertão É Dentro da Gente" by Aline Borges for CASACOR São Paulo 2024 travels to the heart of the backlands of Minas Gerais and rescues the architect's own family roots. To design this 55 m² space, the professional returned to the materiality of the architecture of northern Minas Gerais , which has earth as its main raw material. In view of this, natural and ancestral materials compose the space and give it an appearance that is both rudimentary and contemporary .

Right at the entrance, a curved stone wall guides visitors through a hallway where soft light highlights the rich detail in the rustic surfaces. The mud walls and the sanded Travertine flooring highlight the natural inspiration. The materials extend to the countertops, which provide a contrast to the modernity of Deca's ceramics and metals. The ceiling is covered in wooden beams, which frame the entire space.

The landscaping designed by Gabi Piccino rediscovers the diversity of species found in the Brazilian hinterland and highlights the principle of sustainability . In fact, sustainability is more than just a concept in the environment – it is the “breath of the project”, explains the architect. The choice of materials with low environmental impact and sustainable construction techniques reflects a commitment to minimal waste generation. The cyclical nature of the design encourages visitors to consider responsible and conscious consumption practices.

To complete this experience that immerses visitors in the backlands of Minas Gerais, Aline invited graffiti artist Speto to project a living piece of art on one of the bathroom walls: "The mural is a window into the soul of the backlands. In a harmonious creation, using the best of visual art, literature, the land and landscaping , a unique, sensorial and striking set was created for those who experience it", describes the architect.
