Agô is a word from the Yoruba language, one of the largest ethnic groups on the African continent, which means “to ask for permission or leave” , and gives its name to the welcome space at CASACOR São Paulo 2021, designed by Gabriela de Matos.

“It brings an Afro-Brazilian and Amerindian perspective on the home, in which the limits of the dwelling are not defined by walls , but by the relationships with the environment, ourselves and the people around us”, says the architect, thanking the partnerships of architect Fellipe Brum , consultant Paula Motta and artist and sister Maré de Matos (who signs the work produced by participants of the painting course for women promoted by Coral and CASACOR ).

The intuitive design, where aesthetics equal ethics, with no academic distinction between form/function, suggests a deep reflection on the house from an Afro-Brazilian and Amerindian perspective. As a result of her research into the legacy of African architecture , architect Gabriela de Matos uses imponderable shapes , created from a constructive/deconstructive game of figures and everyday elements in large cities.

On the floor, a resin with pebbles evokes the sensation of walking barefoot on the ground, creating a direct connection between person and nature through touch. What would otherwise remain "outside" enters through large arched openings, with emphasis on the tiles that are so prevalent in regions such as the Brazilian northeast.

Water, air, earth and fire blend together in the color palette, evoking a naturalness that comforts, welcomes and excites. In the center, the locally made rammed earth bench represents ancient and ancestral technology. Visit the 3D Tour of this environment here.
