Gil's Song
CASACOR BahiaMaking his debut at CASACOR Bahia, architect João Gabriel presents O Canto de Gil, which pays homage to black cultural heritage and the music of Gilberto Gil. Inspired by the song “Baba Alapalá,” the space uses red, yellow, and pink clay tones to create an ancestral connection with the land. The entrance hall displays an image of the singer and composer from Bahia dressed as an ancestor, next to a tree that symbolizes his roots. Excerpts from his songs are scattered throughout the space, and the trilogy of albums “Refazenda,” “Refavela,” and “Realce” are highlighted in paintings. João Gabriel, known for his Brazilian aesthetic and decolonial approach, incorporates Mexican, Asian, and African cultural elements, creating an environment that reflects deep memories and connections.
